“A JOURNEY IN CONTEMPORARY ART”
DIONISIO CIMARELLI TO SPEAK IN PALERMO, SICILY
Lecture at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (RISO) to be followed by roundtable discussion
May 3rd, 2024 — 6:00 PM
PALERMO – Dionisio Cimarelli, the celebrated sculptor and educator, will be at the Regional Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Palermo (RISO), on May 3, 2024 at 6pm to speak about his life and work. After his lecture, Professor Cimarelli will be joined for a roundtable discussion by Art Historian and Critic Daniela Brignone, Director Giuseppe Cipolla of the Palermo Academy of Fine Arts, and Archaeologist Rossella Giglio. Journalist Alberto Samonà, former Regional Assessor of Cultural Heritage and Sicilian identity, will moderate.
The event is sponsored by Sicily Artist Retreats and co-presented with the Regional Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Palermo (RISO). Admission is free with reception to follow.
“I am delighted to have been invited by the Riso Museum to share my story and artistic research,” said Professor Cimarelli. “As the most important and dynamic contemporary art museum in this wonderful land — Sicily, which has made an extraordinary contribution to art and culture over the centuries — it is a privilege for me to be part of its narrative.”
“Art is a global venture, as Dionisio’s work has always testified,” said Rosetta Sciacca Volkov, founder and president, Sicily Artist Retreats. “His brilliance is at once globalized and distinctly Italian, and thus completely contemporary and timeless at the same time. Sicily Artist Retreats is proud to work with him as a teacher and as an artist in his own right.”
Professor Cimarelli has worked as a sculptor, conservator-restorer of historic sculpture, and educator for institutions as prestigious as the Louvre, Strasbourg Cathedral, King Saud University Riyadh, the New York Art Students League, and the National Sculpture Society. His work has been showcased at EXPO Shanghai 2010, the Venice Biennale, and the Berlin Philharmonic, among others.
Please contact Antoinette Legnini, Program Director, Sicily Artist Retreats (annie@artistretreats.com) to attend in-person, or to arrange interviews with Professor Cimarelli or the panel members.
